FREE Webinar--Smoking and Diabetes: What's the Connection?

The California Smokers’ Helpline and its training and technical assistance arm, the Center for Tobacco Cessation, are pleased to host this free webinar on Wednesday, September 23rd from noon to 1 pm PST, Smoking and Diabetes: What's the Connection?, presented by Tami MacAller MPH, MCHES, West Hawaii Coordinator for the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii.

According to the 2014 Surgeon General’s Report, smoking causes diabetes, and people with diabetes who smoke have a 30% to 40% higher risk for type 2 diabetes than nonsmokers.  Helping smokers with diabetes to quit is one of the most effective ways to improve diabetes control.

So, how do you talk to a patient with diabetes about quitting smoking? Ms. MacAller will provide an overview of how smoking affects diabetes and provide practical tips and strategies for helping patients with diabetes quit smoking. Webinar topics include:

About the Presenter

Tami MacAller MPH, MCHES, is the West Hawaii Coordinator for the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii, a program of the Hawaii Public Health Institute, helping to create local and state tobacco prevention and control policy.

Previously, Tami worked as a Senior Health Promotion Specialist for the California Diabetes Program where she facilitated the Diabetes and Tobacco Collaboration project and the Diabetes and Tobacco Do you cAARd? Task Force.

Tami received her BS from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, MPH from California State University Northridge, and is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES).
